Dragnet-"The Big Threat" (Original Air Date: May 13, 1954)
What an incredible day so far. But please don't be mistaken, for all of it, upon its arrival, wasn't smelling or looking like roses (or any flower for that matter.) So, you may be wondering...how can I label the day incredible? Simple. You have to, absolutely have to, consider the good, the lessons in EVERYthing.
Sometimes...maybe even a lot of times, the challenging stuff that makes you cry or even sob, once allowed to deliver its message, can then, in turn be utilized for good.
Consider that when you purchase a kiwi fruit (Chinese gooseberry) for example, the sight of that piece of greenish brown oval shaped hen egg sized ball with fur has some nerve thinking that it would be acceptable to look at, let alone eat.
And yet, behind its distasteful (pun perhaps intended) appearance, it packs health benefits that only the flavanoids family can deliver through their cell signalling pathways and antioxidant effects (=anti-viral, anti-cancer, anti-inflammatory.)
So by simply setting aside the aversion to its fuzzy furriness, the greenish brown ball could be the vehicle that helps you meet the daily fruit requirement, and bring some health benefits that other families, like the Starches, Sugars, Proteins families, just cannot muster.
It's really quite the same (or very similar) when thinking of lessons that we must learn that initially feel painful but turn out to be little dragnets that facilitate enlightenment and its inevitable acceptance and happiness.
One day, perhaps soon, I will share a personal life lesson that was delivered earlier today. (Initially I refused its delivery because even through so pretty on the outside, I instinctively knew that touching and opening the pretty package would gash me and mangle my heart.) And I couldn't just leave the package out on the door step since I'd be risking someone tripping over it...
Dragnets, as the name implies, are big ole nets that crawl or drag an area (typically a crime area) and captures everything. Then once hauled into a focused sequestration for experts to view, the wheat can be separated from the chaff. In the referenced episode of Dragnet, "The Big Threat," victims of a series of robberies have been intimidated into silence, refusing to testify against the suspects for fear of being punished or violated further.
When we think of health and the wellness that creates it, we cannot afford to be fearful or intimidated about seeking therapies, and modalities that aren't packaged in a prescription bottle. Indeed, wellness that defines health, rarely can be found inside of plastic bottle stuffed with cotton on its top to protect the tablets, capsules, or pills on the bottom.
The big threat then becomes not alone that of suppression of disease (instead of prevention with wellness), but as well, the (false) information that leads one (HCP &/or individual) to believe that disease suppression is greater than disease prevention and risk assessment.
