Alwin Lopez "Al" Jarreau
(March 12, 1940 – February 12, 2017)
"Acrobat of Scat" and Vocal Percussionist
Look to the Rainbow is a live album by Al Jarreau, released on May 27, 1977 and it marked a breakthrough for his career in Europe and later also in the US. In 1978 it won the Grammy Award for Best Jazz Vocal Performance.
The most recognized song on this album is Jarreau's interpretation of Paul Desmond's classic jazz number "Take Five", which was also released as a single in an edited version in 1977.
Growing up in the 1970s and 1980s, the music was amazing and Al Jarreau reigned supreme. Singer Kem (Kim Owens) sounds much like Al; but, there will only ever be one Al Jarreau and today, May 5, 2018, I'm taking 5 to breathe and remember the best vocal percussionist to ever ratta-tat-tat!
