Oh I get it... for the majority of us, say around 80%, in order to live, we have to look for ways to cut corners, save money, and time. You, like I (used to) frequent the retail behemoths with their smiley faces and price rollback fairies. Rolling your shopping cart down the aisle, you are thinking to yourself and sometimes out loud-I don't have a lot of time, I need tonight's dinner, and I need it to be inexpensive-and throw in natural/healthy for good measure. And for God's sake, please let there be a cash register open without a long line or a self-check out that is working and accepting debit cards.
That was me six months ago.
Trying to eat (relatively) clean, satisfy my sweets addiction, and keep my emotions in check during the most difficult period of my life, I fell prey to the $0.46 (the rollback fairies had surely blessed me) pack of Martha White® Lemon Poppy Seed Muffin Mix. Oh joy! Let me get some WildBerry and Blueberry flavored, as well. Hell, I will be able to get change back from the $2 bill I had to pull from my collectibles stash (because until I could find my next gig, I was flat broke, and pinching nickels, dimes, and pocket fuzzies )
Mission accomplished, no long lines.
And how tasty, Mrs. Martha White-you sure can put a delicious blend of enriched, bleached flour and chemicals together very nicely. I'll be eating more of these!
And I did...
...'til one day I noticed that the muffin pan that I put the flavored, chemical goo into would not wash clean no matter how much I soaked, scrubbed, and scraped.
What the hell?
This loaf pan looked like a toxic dump site and I was happy to shovel up the (waste) product into the appointed receptacle (my body!)
No wonder (coupled with all the other deficiencies in the wellness wheel), my health had been absent.
Maybe it was that sodium silicoaluminate added to prevent caking or polypropylene glycol esters of fatty acids to enhance the gel propensity, just laying in the pan defying my attempts to wash it away (forgetting that it was already inside of the human body receptacle-me, and not being washed out of there readily, either--even if I heated and jet sprayed the spring water that I drink...
I erred in trusting the price rollback fairies and smiley faced behemoths to offer me natural, healthy, reasonably priced, and NON-TOXIC "foodstuffs."
So please learn a lesson from me and STOP CUTTING THE WRONG CORNERS.
